This week the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced extensions for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) applicants. In the past, the initial registration period remained open for 180 days, this extension now allows the initial registration to run for 18 months. The agency's primary focus in granting this extension is to enlist as many new applicants as possible.
"DHS has determined that limiting the registration period to 180 days may place a burden on initial applicants who are unable to timely file but would otherwise be eligible for a grant of TPS."
At this time, the TPS extension is only available to applicants who are nationals of Venezuela, Syria, and Burma (Myanmar). The registration period will now run until November 25, 2022. DHS is strongly encouraging applicants to take swift action and submit their applications as soon as possible.
